The Berger’s story begins in 1928, when a gentleman by the name of John Berger opened a small community ice cream parlor and grocery store. Throughout the years, Berger’s has grown into the full service restaurant we are today. We not only want to exceed your expectations of excellent service and delicious top-quality food, but it is our hope to be deeply rooted into the community that has helped shape who we are today. John Berger, Bruce’s great-grandfather started Berger’s as an ice cream parlor and grocery store.
After prohibition, Berger’s received their first beer license. John then converted the business into a restaurant.
John and his wife, Mary, passed the business onto their son, Norman, and his wife, Bertha.
Norman and Bertha passed the business onto their sons, Ken and Curt, with the support of their spouses, Bonnie and Jan.
Ken passes away unexpectedly. Ken’s son, Bruce, invested into the business and became co-owner with Curt.
After 45 years in the business, Curt and his wife Jan retired in June handing full authority over to their nephew Bruce, with the support of his wife, Michelle.
Sister, Sue Berger-Headings, has also played an important role in the continuation of our family business.
We moved out of our old location due to the expansion of M-84.
